Oracle CloudWorld 2024 Recap

ITCROSS proudly participated as both a presenter and exhibitor at Oracle’s most important event of the year, Oracle CloudWorld 2024. Held in Las Vegas from September 9 to 12, at The Venetian Resort, the event provided a valuable platform for showcasing ITCROSS expertise in global projects and an incredible networking opportunity.

Year 2024 really stood out, with remarkable assistance (over 12,000 attendees!), making a memorable event with a very rich showcase, plenty of customers, Oracle Partners, demos, sessions and a lot more.

ITCROSS’ session AI FOR THE CFO”  completely aligned with the topic of the year, attracted a full auditorium interested in how global companies can better achieve finance process automation if using Oracle AI.

Keynotes were a highlight in the conference as usual, setting the stage for the coming year in terms of innovation, Oracle’s new developments, and interesting customer stories.

Here are some notes about them:

Safra Catz’s Keynote on Customers Winning with the Cloud and AI: The event kick off was Oracle CEO Safra Catz’ Keynote, emphasizing the multicloud strategy by mentioning that some of their former competitors, like Microsoft, Google, and AWS, are now their partners: Oracle’s “technology is built for customers to run it anywhere they choose.”

This year she welcomed to the stage five powerful customer success stories that made great impact on the audience:

  • MGM Resorts: by Bill Hornbuckle (CEO)

Hornbuckle spoke about how Las Vegas has changed over the past four decades from a casino-centric town to a resorts city, world class dining, entertainment and retail place.

MGM Resorts International has invested heavily in a number of Oracle applications and platforms, including Opera and Fusion, and is planning to adopt AI to reduce the burden of inbound customer requests and other improvements of their booking system.

  • Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), by La´Naia Jones (CIO)

Oracle’s first customer since 1977, who is still working together with them. According to Safra, CIA is the most demanding customer and, as a result, the one who teaches them every day and drives them to continuously improve.

La’Naia said that whilst the CIA used to operate from an ‘old school database’, it is now very quickly advancing its adoption of AI – particularly generative AI.

  • BNP Pariba: by Bernard Gavgani (CIO) and Jean-Yves Fillion (Vice Chairman)

The bank now runs more than 750 AI-powered processes, including those for corporate payments, compliance, anti-money laundering, and information security.

Larry Ellison’Keynote on Oracle’s Vision and Strategy

Larry Ellison’s keynote addressed two main topics: the Multicloud Era and AI applied to Cybersecurity.

Multicloud Era: Ellison began by highlighting that we are entering a new phase where different cloud services need to work seamlessly together. He noted that while customers often use multiple infrastructure clouds, these clouds currently don´t “integrate gracefully”, and cloud should be open, customer should have choices. To address this, he announced a new strategic alliance with AWS, in addition to other recent ones like Microsoft (Azure) and Google.

He explained that Oracle will build (with go-live December 2024) an Oracle datacenter inside AWS Cloud to facilitate data integration between them both; it’s an Exadata cluster within AWS Cloud. As an AWS customer, you will be able to provision, directly from the AWS console, the Oracle database.

Ellison then invited AWS CEO, Matt Garman, to the stage to elaborate on the details of this collaboration.

AI for Cybersecurity: He referred to the implication of AI on cybersecurity, as the advanced technology that Oracle is using to build cyber defense robots, that can defend from identity theft and intrusions.
